Kill Our Demons: Seasonal Update (#devlog5)

Seasonal greetings, gamers, developers, and fellow humans alike. After a couple of delays, this devlog has finally arrived!

It was in my best interest to take a hiatus over the summer. As an independent developer and human, I too had to survive against my demons. And through this time I’ve been equipped with a different insight into the game, my life, and everything I’m trying to accomplish as a developer.

“At times you gotta step away, do some livin'Let time provide a new prescription, givin' truer vision”

This *update* will be rolling out under the original UE4 version in early January 2023. I will be re-releasing later in the month on the UE5 platform. Both will be accessible and co-exist until the next update.

Change log:
  • skeleton movements in the dark and general bug fixes
  • Skeleton’s awareness on the map (no spoilers for this, play the game and find out!)
  • fixed inventory & shop menu glitches (not visible, wrong info/display UI)
  • changed sprinting speed from 300 to 400. Will be experimenting with this going forward with an actual running animation
  • added quest log in Pause Menu with sample quest (will be expanded upon going forward)
  • Added sound for Monster Spawn
  • Added extra sounds for background effects and noises (more to come!)
  • updated Controls Menu to be more visually appealing and easier to understand
  • updated Exit UI to be more visually appealing and easier to understand (this will be overhauled in the next update)
  • Modified Beta HUD to be more visually appealing and for accessibility
  • Added Notification Pop-Up for Currency, Health, and Stamina Rewards
  • Fixed/Updated spawn rates & quantities (adjusting the DDA. This will be revamped at the next update)
  • map expansion (I’ll leave it open for now, but I’ll be managing the area better later on)
  • Modified the intro cinematic cutscene, this will be a part of a bigger picture system in the future

And that wraps up the updates…. If you have any problems or encounter any bugs, feel free to comment, review or contact me personally @developr_dale on Twitter.

I thank you for playing, reading, or watching the progress of KOD. It’s been a tough year, and I can see it’s been tough for a lot of people. Regardless of where you live, who you are, and what you do, we all share the same Demons. Let’s talk. Mental health is a major issue in society, not enough is being done. All because of Our Demons. We’ve gotta do something about it. Let’s talk, come together, and Kill Our Demons.

With Love,
Dev Dale
